Immeasurable and Inexpressible

I was just thinking about....

In just a few days, we will celebrate a National Holiday known as Thanksgiving Day. Commercially, Stores and Malls will be gearing up for the big push of sales between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is so easy for us to get caught up in the Commercial emphases and forget the Religious Purpose and Implication of this time of year. We will plan and prepare large meals, and have a list for purchasing gifts for family, friends, and others. But in all of the planning and preparation, whatever happened to Giving Thanks to God for His faithfulness, care, and blessing!

There are some intriguing words in Scripture that need to be modeled and expressed by us. One, is the Confidence and Reality that nothing - absolutely nothing - is impossible with God. This necessitates our having faith and confidence in God alone because, without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).

Two additional words that strike me as being of utmost importance are: Immeasurable and Inexpressible. When we think of our God being able to do "immeasurably more that we can ask or imagine" (Ephesians 3:20), we should be filled with gratitude. And, we should remember that nothing within the will of God for us is outside of the power of God to accomplish for us. I think of the words of Jesus recorded in Luke 6:38, "Give, and in will be given to you, GOOD MEASURE, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be in your lap. For with the measure you uses it will be measured back to you."
This is a description of the IMMEASURABLE Blessing God is ready and willing to give to us as we respond to Him. Another idea of this is stated in Malachi 3:10-12...
Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.
And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts,
if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and
pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil,
and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts.
Then all nations will call you blessed,
for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.

The other word is Inexpressible. If we used all of the words available to us in our national language, we would exhaust the adjectives and superlatives in terms of expressing Thanksgiving to our God. I think Peter captured this idea when he shared with us in I Peter 1:8, "...and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you GREATLY REJOICE with JOY INEXPRESSIBLE and full of glory." That is how we should approach The Lord and reflect upon His goodness and His provision.

May each of us Be Thankful to the Lord (1) Who is able to do the Impossible, (2) Who is able to do Immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine, and (3) Who allows us to be filled with Joy Inexpressible because of His Great Love for us!
