BEING FREE INDEED

I Was Just Thinking About – BEING FREE INDEED.

Some of the final thoughts that will be in a book I will soon have published include: One can be unchained, unshackled and unfettered from bondage and slavery to sin. The key is to seek Jesus Christ who is the only one who can cause those chains to fall off so you can be free indeed. He was emphatic and clear when He stated His eternal purpose in John 8:31-34 (NLT), “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free...I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever.  So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.”

Jesus has removed the chains that bound one and immediately brought about the needed reality of one being set free indeed. If one tries on his own to loosen the shackles by which he is bound, he will find it to be a frustrating effort that will result in failure. The force and power of the enemy is too great for an ordinary person to overcome.

At some point, if being free indeed is that which one seeks, the need to turn to the only one who can set one free indeed must be sought. Even though it may be challenging and confusing to one, the first step of faith alone must be taken. When one responds to the invitation of Jesus Christ to come to Him, He will not turn that one away.

An additional passage that underscores the truth regarding slavery to sin and being set free is Hebrews 2:9-18 (BSB), But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting for God, for whom and through whom all things exist, to make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering…since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death…He had to be made like His brothers in every way, that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, in order to make atonement for the sins of the people.”

A contemporary worship chorus has a simple and very meaningful repetitious lyric that includes the step of faith for the one who will Come to Jesus. A portion of that lyrics is, “Weak and wounded sinner, Lost and left to die…Come to Jesus…Come to Jesus and live!"

When one comes to Jesus, the chains that once bound will be loosed forever. This will begin the new walk and new life. It will mean old things passing away and all things becoming new. One will be free indeed because Jesus Christ accomplished that freedom once for all for all who will believe. Begin to live the new life in Christ by living in the truth and reality of Galatians 5:1, It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery.”

Prayerfully – consider these things with me.
