I Was Just Thinking About – DIVISIONS
In the aftermath of the recent Presidential election, there are differing people-interest groups – illegal/undocumented aliens; women’s rights; etc. - taking to the streets to exhibit their fears and dissatisfaction with the result of the election. It matters little if it can be proven that a multi-billionaire is funding the foment or not. The fact is that across our country there is unrest, protests and marching en masse to exhibit the disagreement with the result of an election and a candidate who is now the President-elect.
Fifty-three years ago, a significant speech that touches on divisions and diversity was to be given by the President of the United States on November 22, 1963. It contained these brief remarks: “Neither the fanatics nor the faint-hearted are needed. And our duty as a Party is not to our Party alone, but to the nation, and, indeed, to all mankind. Our duty is not merely the preservation of political power but the preservation of peace and freedom. So let us not be petty when our cause is so great. Let us not quarrel amongst ourselves when our Nation’s future is at stake. Let us stand together with renewed confidence in our cause — united in our heritage of the past and our hopes for the future — and determined that this land we love shall lead all mankind into new frontiers of peace and abundance.”
As any student of history knows, this speech was never given. Why? Because a man. Lee Harvey Oswald, who disagreed with the Nation’s fundamentals and a President who espoused them, decided he would take matters into his own hands. He did so on that fateful day by shooting and killing the President of the United States of America - John F. Kennedy. In the ensuing five years, there would be other assassinations – Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. These senseless killings were similarly stirred into action because of personal displeasure with the due processes of government and those who represented a different point of view and cause.
Is there a Biblical Christian Perspective that should be embraced and championed for our culture and the Church? In Get More Strength For The Journey, today’s post includes these purposeful words: “When I read about the fact that God is sovereign and fully in control of everything that is happening in my life (Jeremiah 10:23) and ultimately manages the whole universe (Colossians 1:16-17), how sweet is that? When I read that He will never leave me or forsake me (Hebrews 13:5) and that He works everything to a good conclusion (Romans 8:28) it settles my spirit with a sweet taste. When I read that this world is not my home (I Peter 2:11) and that my home is heaven, a place where God will wipe away every tear (John 14:3; Revelation 21:4), there could be nothing sweeter!”
Prayerfully – Consider these things with me!
