I Was Just Thinking
About - - DOOM-STERS
At a time when the
nation in inundated with political rhetoric, polls and pundit diatribe – some professing
Christians seem to be wringing their hands in despair about the present conditions
of the nation and the future demise of Biblical Values. Jonah faced such a time
and place when God called him to go to the depraved nation of Nineveh. Jonah
objected because, in his mind, they were deserving of judgment, death and
destruction. Was that God’s plan and idea for the wicked place? No!
Strength for the
Journey has these paragraphs in the devotional about Jonah and Nineveh –
Lessons From Jonah: “The wicked people of Nineveh were enemies of God’s people.
Jonah thought they should be judged and not given a second chance. He obviously
needed a lesson in sharing God’s compassion for the lost. ‘God saw their works,
that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster' (Jonah 3:10). Can I display God’s glory in
this? Often our suffering is
not about us but about people seeing the power of God working through our
weakness. Jonah found himself in a helpless situation, yet God used him to lead
a pagan nation to repentance.”
In the midst of a
chaotic culture, what does God want us to do? Some have decided to plan for the
worst and to live within a fortress mentality framework. For others, albeit too
few, there is a commitment to reach as many as possible with the Gospel for as
long as one can. This supposes a willingness to take up one’s cross daily and
to be committed to Christ being magnified in one’s body whether it be by life
or by death (Philippians 1:20-21). Which category best describes you? On what basis do you either rationalize or justify your choice?
A Prayer: O Lord,
help us to have your mind and to make the right choice(s) for our lives and your
kingdom. Amen!
Prayerfully –
consider these things with me.
