From My Perspective - - -
When something is deemed to be absurd, the idea being conveyed if it is used as an adjective would be something that is: “utterly or obviously senseless, illogical, or untrue; contrary to all reason or common sense; laughably foolish or false.” When the word is used as a noun it conveys the meaning regarding: “the quality or condition of existing in a meaningless and irrational world.” One of the current ideas in the world of technology is the development of a driverless car. It has reached a point where there may soon be test runs of this car on selected Freeways and Streets in California. Google has indicated they will have available a temporary steering wheel in their prototype just in case it is needed. Is any of this a good idea? Is it something the public will accept and purchase? Will it be an energy efficient electric car or one fueled by gasoline? Or, will all of this be historically noted as a colossal failure and a gross technological absurdity?
Internet listings regarding absurdities is interesting. In the category of Synonyms, absurdity (ridiculous situation or behavior) is associated with some of the following considerations: “farce, craziness, idiocy, insanity, illogical, improbable, irrational, and senseless.” The Antonyms are: “logic, intelligence, seriousness, wisdom and sound judgment.” In recent years, millions of dollars have been spent to develop energy efficient means to combat global warming (or climate change, depending on who is addressing the subject and in what forum it is being presented). Will the absurd become a reality in this generation or anytime soon?
In doing some brief research for this Blog, a listing under absurdities is the Skeptics Annotated Bible. One of the endorsements for this volume is submitted by Dr. Michael Shermer (Founding Publisher of Skeptic Magazine and Executive Director of the Skeptics Society): “A stunning achievement. I have an entire bookshelf of Bibles and Biblical Commentaries, concordances, appendices, and the like, but the Skeptics Annotated Bible is by far the best tool for biblical research I have ever come across.” There is a listing of at least 2,293 listed designated absurdities. The next to last “absurdity” references Revelation 22:16, “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” The Skeptic indicates: “This verse refers to Jesus as the “bright and morning star” as is Lucifer in Isaiah 14:12. So, is Jesus Lucifer?” What is being either ignored or omitted at this juncture?
Isaiah 14:12-14 contains the following goals and ambitions of Lucifer: “How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn!...You said in your heart, (1) I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God. (2) I will set my throne on high; (3) I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; (4) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; (5) I will make myself like the Most High.”
In this regard, just two references to note. The first is Matthew 24:23-24 where Jesus stated: “If anyone says to you: Look, here is the Christ…do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.” The fact being stated is there will be false reports and representations. There will be many contrived and counterfeit signs. All of this will be a final effort for Lucifer to gain recognition and dominance in the world.
The second passage is II Thessalonians 2:9-12, “The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
The only absurdity is the final effort of Lucifer to usurp the throne and place of the King of Glory, Jesus Christ. He failed before Creation and his ultimate destination is certain. He will be cast into the Lake of Fire with all his minions and those who followed him. Jesus is the true Light Who should always be followed. Consider these things with me.
