From My Perspective - - -
It appears as though Political Correctness has infiltrated the consciousness and conscience of the “Church.” The “Church” has gradually succumbed to the pressures of the Culture to the point where it appears as though the Traditions and Forms of the Church are of greater value and importance than the Message and Practical Application of its belief system. The “Church” has become too concerned with the possibility of offending those who are more vocal about their alternative lifestyles and choices than they are about being offended by that behavior and vocalization of that which is contrary to Biblical values and standards.
This past week, an NBA Basketball player, Jason Collins, announced that he was Gay. As a result, following an ESPN Discussion on their Outside The Lines segment, the following occurred: “Chris Broussard, who covers the NBA for ESPN, had said on the air that Collins and others in the NBA who engage in premarital sex or adultery were walking in open rebellion to God, and to Jesus Christ. Broussard, a former reporter for The New York Times, spoke during ESPN's Outside the Lines program Monday discussing Collins' announcement…ESPN's Josh Krulewitz said the network regrets that a discussion of personal viewpoints became a distraction. The network offered its own view of Collins' news: ESPN is fully committed to diversity and welcomes Jason Collins' announcement…During his on-the-air discussion, Broussard described himself as a Christian. I don't agree with homosexuality…I think it's a sin, as I think all sex outside of marriage between a man and a woman is…”
Another entry in this regard appeared in the Wall Street Journal Opinion Page. In his “Best Of The Web Today” column, James Taranto wrote: “One fascinating oddity of the contemporary multicultural left is that it is devoted to the assumption that no important differences between people, and especially groups of people, are genetically determined--with one exception. Such blank slate-ism is most notable in debates over intelligence and differences between the sexes, which are claimed to be entirely the product of nurture rather than nature… The exception is homosexuality, which we are supposed to believe is all in the genes. (Your sex is supposedly more malleable than the sex to which you are attracted!) The position that being gay is in the DNA is expedient, since it makes it harder to object to homosexuality on moral grounds… Collins has an identical twin, Jaron, who was "astounded" to discover that his brother had entered into the homosexual lifestyle. He, despite sharing Jason's identical DNA, is as straight as a laser beam. Identical twins share straits [sic!] that are genetically determined: height, skin color, eye color, hair color and so forth. If homosexuality is a genetically caused sexual preference, Jaron Collins should be as gay as his brother. He's not…”
However, our Culture is relentless in its pursuit of alternative lifestyles. As a result, it apologizes for the comments by a Chris Broussard, but we find very little umbrage taken with the Jason Collins announcement. The Culture gives wide support to that which should be offensive and repulsive – from the President of the United States to the performing arts, etc. A Weather Reporter on a daily TV Network announces that he is engaged to be married and also introduces the nation to his “husband” – and – his peers and associates are gleeful and applaud his announcement. No censor or apology for his comments. No sensitivity regarding any viewers who might be offended by his choice and announcement.
Jesus once said – “My sheep hear My voice and they follow Me…” (John 10). Jesus also stated: “Feed My sheep…Feed My lambs…” (John 21). However, Jesus never suggested that the lambs were to be silent in a culture that is corrupting and becoming more corrupt. Regrettably, leading evangelical leaders have been silent. This may have occurred because they’re concerned regarding their support base and membership numbers. The posture seems to be that the “Church” is allowed to condone that which God has condemned – and to do so with impunity. In December 2010, The Washington Post featured comments by The Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson, Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire that the sin in Genesis 19 (Sodom and Gomorrah) was not Homosexuality but a lack of Hospitality. In Matthew 11, Jesus referenced the reality of Sodom and Gomorrah when He addressed the contemporary culture of His day and the blatant disregard of His miracles and His Word. Be a courageous lamb and represent The Shepherd in this declining and decadent culture. Consider these things with me.
